Regulator Activity: The Competition and Markets Authority has announced a package of measures, including the requirement that banks adopt Open Banking by 2018, aimed at ensuring that banks compete harder for customers, technological advances are fully exploited and smaller providers are able to compete more fairly.

On 2 January 2018, the existing discard ban for cod, whiting and saithe was extended to include more vessels in the North Sea. Fishermen targeting saithe in North Western Waters, including the Irish Sea, will be required to land it for the first time.
