Round 11 of automotive transformation fund opens for applications

Round 11 of Innovate UK's Automotive Transformation Fund is set to open for expressions of interest. The scheme has a total fund of £1 billion to invest in capital projects that will help to industrialise the electrified automotive supply chain at scale in the UK. Applications will open on 24 May 2021 and close on 16 June 2021.

Grants available for woodland management in the National Forest

The National Forest Management Grant is providing funding for landowners and managers to help them undertake a wide range of management activity that will benefit woodland and farmland in the National Forest.

Latest round of Ulster-Scots broadcast fund opens for applications

The latest round of the Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund has opened for applications, and will fund projects that seek to develop traditional television programming or online content, such as interactive content, games or animation that focus exclusively or predominantly on Ulster-Scots language. Up to £400,000 is available for each project, and applications close on 28 June 2021.

Apprenticeship grants available for construction firms in Wales

The Wales Apprenticeship Grants scheme from the Construction Industry Training Board is providing grants for construction employers in Wales to help them cover the costs of hiring and training apprentices. Achievement grants of £3,500 are available upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.


Travel Regulations

Travel insurers face calls for clarity over COVID cover

Travel insurance firms are facing calls for clarity after research from consumer group Which? found that that many people buying travel insurance are being left with a false impression of the level of COVID protection they might benefit from. Around half of consumers think they are covered for changes to travel advice, lockdown rules, or postponements from airlines and holiday firms, but the research from Which? found cover for these eventualities was very rare.

UK air and travel industry calls for more countries to be added to green list

Airlines and travel firms have called on the UK Government to expand the number of countries on the green list, or to publish an 'expected list' of destinations under consideration for summer travel to allow customers to plan. The travel industry is especially keen for the US, France, Spain, Greece and the Caribbean to be added to the green list as soon as possible, or the risk of firms going out of business will increase.

Restrictions ease across the UK

Lockdown rules have eased across England, Wales and most of Scotland from 17 May 2021. in England, pubs, restaurants and cafes can open indoors, the ban on foreign travel has been lifted, and indoor entertainment can reopen, along with hotels, hostels and B&Bs.


Government Support

Atom Bank starts lending under recovery loan scheme

Atom Bank has been approved for accreditation under the Recovery Loan Scheme, and has now started to offer quotes on its secured lending products. Atom will offer businesses secured loans of between £250,000 and £5 million, subject to eligibility criteria, via its network of 200+ independent brokers across the UK.


COVID-19 Regulations

Glasgow and Moray to remain at Level 3 COVID restrictions

The Scottish Government has announced that, while most of mainland Scotland will move to Level 2 COVID restrictions from 17 May 2021, Glasgow and Moray will remain at Level 3 due to higher COVID infection rates. As a result, travelling in and out of those areas will only be permitted for work, education or care, while pubs, cafes and restaurants will remain outdoor only.
